Ashley Cole

RESONANCE

February 26-28, 2026

Caira Moreira Projects is pleased to present RESONANCE, works from the Crescendo and Color series, the first solo exhibition with artist Ashley Cole.

Featuring a new body of large-scale abstract paintings that embody the improvisational energy of jazz, Crescendo and Color explores the vibrant dialogue between sound and sight, rhythm and color, and structure and freedom.

Known for her layered, rhythmically charged canvases, Ashley Cole approaches painting as a jazz musician approaches improvisation—through spontaneity, attentive listening, and a spirit of collaboration between elements. Each brushstroke mirrors a note of sound, and each composition resonates as a visual symphony.

In Crescendo and Color, Cole creates complex, multi-layered works that parallel the structural build of a musical score. Hues overlap, collide, and harmonize, transforming the canvas into a dynamic field where movement and stillness coexist. The works embody the tension and harmony of jazz: a balance between order and unpredictability, between the discipline of composition and the freedom of improvisation.

Cole’s process is performative and intuitive, preserving the rhythm of gesture and the physicality of motion. Bold brushstrokes and contrasting colors capture the moment of crescendo—the fleeting yet profound peak of emotion that music and life share. These paintings invite viewers into an immersive environment where abstraction becomes sound, memory, and heartbeat.

While monumental works dominate the exhibition, smaller studies offer moments of intimacy and reflection. Together, the series underscores a central theme: that color and rhythm, like music and life, are built layer by layer, telling stories both deeply personal and universally human.

Crescendo and Color continues Ashley Cole’s exploration of abstraction as a vessel for improvisation, emotion, and connection, positioning her work at the intersection of visual art and sound. The exhibition challenges us to experience painting not only through the eye, but through rhythm, resonance, and movement.

About the Artist
Ashley Cole (b. 1983, Los Angeles, CA) is a contemporary abstract painter whose work translates rhythm, memory, and improvisation into expressive visual form. Her practice is deeply influenced by music—particularly the improvisational structures of jazz—which she parallels with the layering of color and gesture. Working primarily in large-scale formats, Cole creates paintings that are both immersive and intimate, bridging the boundaries between sight, sound, and human experience.
