ARTIST STATEMENT:
My paintings express the beauty I experience in nature primarily through the freedom of exploration. This exploration is based on intuition, chance and experimentation. Intentionality is also tied in with chance as the staining process itself is setting up the control of what the process can result in. Painting on unprimed material while on the floor helps free me to move intuitively through the painting as each gesture influences the next allowing me to arrive at an experience that feels genuine and is without fear or doubt. Evoking both organic and atmospheric characteristics the staining process enables the color to become more saturated within the cloth. Color serves as the primary subject, conveying the emotional essence of the painting.
